Calling Station. Application in practice
I conduct here conversation in very wide sense, but, as well as much in poker, all depends on the certain opponent. Different players, from whom it is possible to name all Calling Station, call in different situations for various reasons. Against one there is one way of a bluff, against others – another, and against the most persistent in general it is impossible to bluff. But there are some principles which should be considered at attempt of a bluff against Calling Station:
1. The maximum pressure has the great value. There are very many players who, basically, play too loosing, but at the same time, they play very much tightly when it is a question of their last counters in tournament. Against these players it is possible bluff very successfully if you are ready to test them for all their counters, and if everything, that they have, was enough for them to feel, that they have a chance to win later if they throw it off now. 2. Do not do a bluff against the short stack. This consequence of the first rule; you cannot put pressure on the player with very small quantity of counters. In raise, for example, against the player ready to call with an open picture in 3rd street, the bluff in late streets simply can be made because for you there will be obvious that he, possibly, cannot have a hand more strongly, than, for example, K-J-x-x-x. Until your board looks strong enough, this player will simply beg you to count, even you, actually, have two pairs.
4. Everything is all right, if you will catch, but do not try to repeat it. Calling Stations search for the reasons for call. If though once they saw your bluff even if it has not been directed against them do not expect, that they can throw off. For them you are the one who bluffs. Now, there has really come time to wait, to value-bet more hands, and never to bluff.
